the written word I

We are not making this easy on ourselves... we are choosing to write a lot of this wedding.
The ceremony is SLOWLY coming along:

Welcome by officiant

ee cummings reading (by selected guest)

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it (anywhere i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you

here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart

i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Christian Reading (by selected guest)

Buddhist Reading (by selected guest)

We like the Hands Blessing and may alter it for our vow recital and possibly a handfast.

Jumping of the Broom by officiant

Our couple will now jump the broom, a ritual with convergent roots in Mother Africa and Celtic Europe. As the bride and groom jump the broom, they physically and spiritually cross the threshold into the land of matrimony. Traditionally, jumping the broom was also a means of sweeping away any evil that may come into their paths. Therefore, in honoring this ritual, Kia and Terry issue a hope and a prayer of sweeping away any hatred or prejudice between people of different colors, beliefs, or traditions.

We will fill in the blank spots as we go on. Indiebride.com has a great page on vows, readings, and all things ceremony. We have a google notebook that both of us collaborate on and we place various words into our ceremony section with bits of religious/spiritual texts, poetry, prose, and song lyrics for now. It will come together. The vow is the tricky one. We both almost cried at the Hands Blessing when it was being read at our marriage retreat weekend and think it is almost appropriate. Thus the thing that most people make the most personal we may use some standard words cut and pasted. If it works, then it works. This process has been academic and fun delving into our spirituality and the words that represent us.

I absolutely love e.e. cummings. I should also find the poem my MOH recited at our wedding. it was fantastic - basically how a woman has so many layers never feel complacent that you know everything about her - continue to dig and find new treasures. I will dig up the poet for you and post back.
